The Badlands: So called because when travelers (in the days before automobiles, roads, etc.) came upon them on their way west (or east), the above is what they would encounter. And this for miles and miles. you had to look for a pass, or go 60 miles around it.
They are really quite beautiful, however. The heavens declare the glory of God....
